Why we’re building
We want to empower workers to access, use, and send money more simply.
For too long, Latino employers, workers, and their families have been forced to navigate systems that are slow, costly, and never built for them.
Our founder, Miguel, saw it firsthand. Growing up, he became the community’s go-to helper translating phone calls, reading manuals, and accompanying neighbors to the bank. What started as language translation quickly became something bigger: he learned to translate systems.
At the same time, he watched his mom run a bookkeeping business serving Latino clients in North Carolina. He saw hardworking Latinos face long lines, hidden fees, and burdens just to access their money, and how manual processes and unbanked staff held back the businesses trying to support them.
He realized payday wasn’t just the end of the week — it could be the start of something better. For everyone. That spark grew into miPlata: a platform that makes accessing, managing, and sending money simpler for Latinos in the U.S.
Our founder
Miguel Alecio, CEO/Founder
Miguel is the founder and CEO of miPlata. Prior to starting miPlata, he served as a Principal on Apollo’s Private Equity portfolio operations team. Before that, he was a Deployment Strategist at Palantir’s commercial business leading global teams on projects spanning three continents, including South America.
